Date Night

Last month we went to Marina Del Ray for a bit, and on the way back we decided to take the streets rather than deal with the traffic on the 405. The kids loved it when we passed LAX, and the planes passed right over the cars. It reminded me of one the date Michael took me on when we were first dating back in 2005. So we shared the story with the kids. I told them how cool it was, that he took me In N Out, but not just any In-N-Out this one is right next to the airport. So close that the planes fly overhead and you can see them all move around the runways, take off and loop around. It really was cool and special. It was like most of our dates, simple, sweet, and memorable.

The kids loved the story so much, they wanted to go there too. So over the weekend, we took them. We had a sunset dinner at the cool In-N-Out by the airport. We shared more stories about dating and how our relationship has changed and grown. Of course, we got excited for every plane that flew overhead. We danced, laughed, ate, and enjoyed our time together. It was a great date night! Both boys even said they plan on bringing their future dates here. Adorable, right.

We aren’t the same people we were when we went on that date. We aren’t the same people we were eight years ago, five years ago or even last year. Sharing these memories, revisiting these places is a reminder that we change, everything changes. At the moment we may have thought “This is the worst thing that could happen to me!” or “This will never get any better.” Yet life went on, we survived, we had days that were horrible, fine, good, and great. We were angry, sad, overjoyed, apathetic, frustrated, or silly. I need these reminders because sometimes I am wallowing in my own self-pity. Hating my body for betraying me, frustrated with my limitations and pain. So, reminders that this is part of the life cycle and opportunities to enjoy my family is what keeps me going. It doesn’t stop the bad days, but I know I can make it through.

Best Wishes,

P.S. Here is the location because I know you want to check it out now, 9149 S Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
